Madeleines

Well, this is not the perfect madeleine yet, but it’s not too bad for a first time. It’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
The Ingredients (for about thirty madeleines)
– 3 eggs
– 140 g sugar
– 200 g flour
– 2 tbs almond essence
– 8 g baking powder
– 100 g butter
– 50 g milk
– optional: 2 organic lemons
– 2 tbs honey
The Recipe
  1. Melt the butter in a casserole.
  2. Mix the eggs with the sugar until it whitens. Add the essence and milk.
  3. Add the flour and baking powder, and the butter (plus the lemon juice and zest in option). Let it rest.
  4. Butter the molds and pour the paste at half-height.
  5. Bake at 240°C (T8) for 5 minutes, then at 190°C (T6) for 10 min. The perfect shape of the hump “my hump my hump my hump, check it out” – is obtained by this change of temperature.

Water = Life est le dernier projet d’Arik Levy, produit par Guzzini pour Omabia, qui était présenté au salon Maison et Objet. Ce sont des sortes de galets en plastique qui permettent d’ouvrir des bouteilles d’eau. Galet, eau, vous saisissez? En fait, on pourrait croire que ce projet est un énième gadget qui ne sert à rien, mais j’imagine qu’il est tout à fait adapté aux vieilles personnes (et sûrement aux enfants aussi), car je sais que ma grand-mère a toujours du mal à ouvrir ses bouteilles.

Water = Life is Arik Levy‘s latest project, produced by Guzzini for Omabia,was exhibited at the Maison & Objet fair last week. They are sorts of plastic pebbles that you can use to open your plastic bottles. Pebble, water, you got it? It looks like a gadget object, but I’m sure it can be quite useful to elderly and children, because I know for a fact that my grand-mother always has troubles to open her own water bottles!

Grilled eggplants salad

This salad could also be called the “I-put-all-the-things-I-had-left-in-my-fridge” salad. Well, when all you have left are a few cool ingredients, like some chive and tomatoes from my parent’s garden, it can be a nice surprise.
The Ingredients (pour 2/3 servings)
– 1 small purple eggplant
– 1 ou 2 tomatoes
– chive
– a dozen mushrooms
– 60g feta
– olive oil
– balsamic vinegar
– 1 garlic clove
– 1/2 lemon
The Recipe
  1. Grill the eggplant cut in slices with olive oil, garlic and balsamic vinegar. Add salt and pepper.
  2. Wash, peel and cut the mushrooms into slices. Place them in a salad bowl with the tomatoes cut in cubes, the feta and chive.
  3. Add the eggplants. Season with a leamon + olive oil vinaigrette.
  4. I wonder if I also put some grilled bacon…


Judith Leiber

Judith Leiber, Hongroise immigrée à  New York après la 2ème Guerre Mondiale,  lance ses premières minaudières en 1963. Elles ont la particularité d’être réalisées de façon complètement artisanale. Elles sont recouvertes de cristaux et valent plusieurs milliers d’euros. J’en ai fais une sélection gourmande mais on trouve aussi des guépards, ours, chats, et autres fantaisies magnifiques…

Judith Leiber, a Hungarian who immigrated in New York after WW2, launched her first series of minaudieres in 1963. They are all handmade out of crystals and cost thousands of dollars. I chose the most yummy ones but there are also wolves, bears, cats and all sorts of amazing looking luxury clutches.
