Roma

Here’s an preview of a culinary walk in Roma…in its alleyway full of flowers, its attractive grocery stores, its foutains, its statues, and its incredible monuments covered with tourists looking like ants on an anthill. I must admit I was a little bit disapointed with our meals there, for that matter if you have any interesting restaurant adresses, don’t hesitate to share! We had a few nice meals though, that I’ll share soon. And happily, I brought some treasures back in my little suitcase : zucchinis blossoms (aaaah what a joy! I can’t find any in Paris), smoked mozarella (oh my!), an unbelievable prociutto (thank god we bought a serious amount of that), green olives as big as birds, and a parmegiano so huge that it barely fits in my fridge.

Radish & Grains Salad

Here’s a very easy and refreshing recipe!

The Ingredients
– 1 bunch of radish
– 1 bunch of spinach or lamb’s lettuce
– 1 cup of quinoa + boulgour + wheat
– feta or fresh goat’s cheese
– vinaigrette (olive oil + balsamic vinegar)

The Recipe

  1. Cook your quinoa into a big casserole of boiling water. Drain and let it cool.
  2. Wash and cut the radish into small strips.
  3. Mix the salad, cheese, radish and grains.
  4. Add your vinaigrette and some grilled sesame or flax grains.

Comté and fig summer rolls

The ingredients (for 10 rolls)

-10 pieces of round rice paper
-10 slices of coppa or prociutto
-8 figs
-1 tbs olive oil
-1 tbs balsamic vinegar
-10 basil leaves
-10 big salad leaves
-pesto (homemade is always better!)

The Recipe

1. Grate the cheese.
2. Peel the figs, crush them and mix them with the oil and vinegar.
3. Dip the first rice paper into a bowl with warm water, until it is soft (not too much).
4. Put it on a counter, then place the basil leaf, salad, pesto, ham, a tablespoon of fig and cheese.
5. Close of a 1/3 the down part, towards the top, then close half way the sides towards the middle (see picture). Roll it fermly.

L’huile ☼ Oil

_____________
Summer is arriving, and salads make their way back onto the table. What is better than a good olive oil to garnish our pretty veggies ? I come back from 3 sunny beautiful days in Roma, and as I was inspired with sunny flavours (although I couldn’t bring back any thanks to those liquid rules…no white truffle oil nor balsamic vinegar…hopefully I managed to bring some prociutto, olives and smoked mozarella, but I can’t reveal everything now, let’s be patient!) : here’s my selection of the greatest looking oil cruet. I have at home the first one, I’ve had it for a few years now, and I have to say it is one of my favorite object. It is, besides being pretty looking, very clever : the cap plugs into the porous neck, the top of the bottle collects oil surplus, and the lip doses the oil at perfection (no, I am not making an ad here…). It is so cool that it has been copied everywhere, the original can be found at Vinçón, a Spanish design shop I discovered in Barcelona.
