Passion. Ambition. Butter. Do You Have What It Takes?

I recently saw the based on true stories movie “Julie & Julia”, by Nora Ephron, with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. It has probably become one of my favourite movies… you wonder why. To make a long story short, in 1949, Julia Child is in Paris (like me), the wife of a diplomat (I’m the daughter of one), wondering how to spend her days (my case a few weeks ago). She tries hat making, bridge, and then cooking lessons at Cordon Bleu. In parallel, in 2002, Julie Powell, about to turn 30 and underemployed with an unpublished novel, decides to cook her way through “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, Julia Child’s published cookbook, in a year, and to blog (oh!) about it. I couldn’t stop but taking screenshots of the fabulous images.

Karl & Coke

Coca-Cola (Light of course!) has asked Karl Lagerfeld to design its new bottle and special edition box. The bottle will be sold at Colette from April 24th for 1.50. The case will be worth 50 and will contain a bottle-opener.

The Recipe

1. Spread out shortcrust on a board with a little bit of flour. Garnish a mould with it (approx. 20cm of diameter). Prick the bottom with a fork.
2. Put it 15 minutes into the refrigerator, then into the oven for 15 minutes at 190 ∘C.
3. In a salad bowl, blend the 75g of sugar, starch, the zests and the egg yolks.
4. Mix the lemon’s juices with the water, and boil this liquid. Then add it progressively into the salad bowl.
5. Transfer the whole mixture in the saucepan and boil it while whipping until it thickens.
6. Display this cream over the mould.
7. Stiffly beaten eggwhites. Incorporate the rest of sugar progressively and continue whipping until it becomes a very firm mixture.
8. Display this meringue over the pie.
9. Put in the oven at 180 ∘C during 15 – 20 minutes until the meringue is glazed.
